Dhunki Meaning

Normally, Dhunki is a bow for scutching/carding cotton, but here in the song of Mere Brother ki Dulhan, that doesn't seem to be the intended meaning.

Instead, it seems that the Dhunki (धुनकी) here is used for a cannon, as dhunakna (धुनकना) is used for booming a cannon.

Update: Finally asked the lyricist Irshad Kamil himself and in his own words 'Dhunki means TRANCE of love... Kind of Magical Spell,' which would mean he has taken the meaning more or less from the traditional dhunki, the bow, as that goes something like a spell, in a periodic, circular way.

    A cannon is any piece of artillery that uses gunpowder or other usually explosive-based propellents to launch a projectile.

    I thought that the main line "dhunki laage" roughly translates to "how does the tune feel?" This is because most of the song is in Punjabi. If you separate the word "dhunki" into two parts, "dhun" means "tune" and "ki" means "how." Add "laage" which means "it feels" and you get the question (in Punjabi) "how does the tune feel?" This makes more sense according to the rest of the lyrics of the song, which are about the feelings of the heart. Thanks for your translation, though; I certainly learned something new! :)
