Ambersar, mostly called as Amritsar is a well known place in Punjab, India. Ambersariya means a person who lives in Amritsar.

Galee mein maarey pherey
Paas aaney ko merey (x2)
Kabhee parakhtaa nain merey too
Kabhee parakhtaa tore (x2)

He walks around in the street
to come near me
checks out my eyes sometimes
and sometimes checks out my walk!

Ambersariyaa, mundyave kachiyaa kaliyaan naa tod (2 times)
Teree maan ney boley hain mujhey teekhey se bol (2 times)
Ambarsariyaa..
ambarsariyaa..

Ambarsariya, boy don't pluck bud
Your mother has said me stinging words
Ambarsariya..
Ambarsariya

Goree goree meree kalai
Goree goree meree kalai
Chudiyan kali kali
Main sharmaati roz lagaatee
Kajal surmaa laali

My wrist is very fair
My wrist is very fair
My bangles are black
I blush and put on
Kohl, and lipstick everyday..

Nahin main surmaa paadaa
Roop naa main chamkaanaa (2 times)
Nain nasheeley hon agar to
Surmey di ki lod

I don't want to use lampblack
I don't want to show my beauty
If the eyes are alcoholic
What's the need of kohl..

Ambersariyaa, mundyave kachiyaa kaliyaan naa tod (2 times)
Teree maan ney boley hain mujhey teekhey se bol (2 times)
Ambarsariyaa..
ambarsariyaa..

    1. Its actually hindi imitation of punjabi

    2. The actual Punjabi version is very tough 4 non Punjabi speaking people....this song is actually modified Hindi version of Punjabi folk song...

  2. "tore" doesnot mean "your own" in punjabi it means, the way you walk. "kabhi parakhta tor" means "kabhi parakhta meri chaal" or "checkout how I walk"

  3. I may be wrong but its not "tore" it is "tol" in the line

    "Kabhee parakhtaa nain merey too
    Kabhee parakhtaa tore"

  4. There is totally wrong translation of tore. It means walking of girl like cat walk of models. In hindi it means chaal of a girl.

  5. Ya that is tore chaal not tor and it means yours walking style not cat walk of models.

  15. So, does Amber mean Amrit..??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No... Amber DOESN'T mean Amrit... Its just a slang in Punjabi... Amritsar used 2b called Ambersar by some rigid Punjabi speaking people of villages b4 partition of India.. So its a folk song... Still many village people in punjab call it Ambersar.... But its only a slang while speaking...while writing its Amritsar only... That's the old Amritsar-Lahore tongue of united punjab (India) b4 partition....

  19. Tore means how one walks. Original song was sung by Lehmber Hussainpuri, written by Labh Janjua.

And Kacchiyan Kalian na tod means don't play with immature girls. It doesn't mean don't pick the buds.

  20. Gali Mein Maare Phere
He wanders up and down the alley
    Paas Aane Ko Mere
    Trying to come closer
    Gali Mein Maare Phere
    Paas Aane Ko Mere

    Kabhi Parakhta Nain Mere Tu
Sometimes you look at my eyes
    Kabhi Parakhta Tor
Sometimes you look at the way I walk
    Kabhi Parakhta Nain Mere Tu
    Kabhi Parakhta Tor

    Ambarsariya Mundave Kachiya
    Kaliyaan Na Tod
Ambersariya(boy from city of Amristar), don't pick flowers yet to bloosom
Teri Maan Ne Bole Hain Mujhe
    Teekhe Se Bol,Ambarsariya..
Your mum's spoken harshly of us, Ambarsariya
    Ho Ambarsariya..

    Main Kaliyon Ke Jaisi
Just like those flowers yet to blossom
    Meri Alhad Umar Niyadi
    I am still young
    Chhoti Si Yeh Jaan Meri
    Aur Joban Behta Paani
My life's small, but the waters of adulthood show themselves

    Jab Se Chadhi Jawaani
Ever since I became more mature,
    Dhoondhti Dil Da Haani
I've been searching for the man who would die for me
    Main Anjani Ko Ye Pani
    I cannot swim
    Le Na Jaave Rod
Don't let this water sweep me away

    Ambarsariya Mundave Kachiya
    Kaliyaan Na Tod
Teri Maan Ne Bole Hain Mujhe
    Teekhe Se Bol
    Ambarsariya..
    Ambarsariya..

    Ho..O..Gori Gori Meri Kalai
    Haaye..Ho Gori Gori Meri Kalai
    On my fair-skinned wrist,
    Choodiyaan Kaali Kaali
    I wear these black bangles
    Main Sharmati Roz Lagati
    Kaajal Surma Laali
Shamefully, in front of the mirror, I shyly put surma(ceremonial dye) in my eyes

    Nahin Main Surma Paada
No, I won't wear this surma
    Dhoop Na Main Chamkaana
No, I won't shine my face
    Nain Nasheele Ho Agar Toh
    Surmaiti Ki Lod
When my eyes are already, intoxicating, what's the need for surma?

    Ambarsariya Mundave Kachiya
    Kaliyaan Na Tod
Ambarsariya, don't pick flowers yet to blossom
Teri Maan Ne Bole Hain Mujhe
    Teekhe Se Bol
Your mum's spoke harshly of us
    Ambersariya!
    Ambarsariya..
    Ho Ambarsariya..

    3. Much better translation than the original one on this site. I'm actually south indian and don't know punjabi beyond usual words from hindi songs. But did some searching since I love this song. Just adding to the first verse:

Main kaliyon ke jaisi, meri alhad umar niyaani

I am like the flower yet to blossom, my age is mischievous (alhad) and naive ( niyaani/ nadaan in hindi)

Choti si yeh jaan meri aur joban behta paani

I am a small entity/ being and youth ( joban) is like flowing water

jab se chadhi jawaani, dhoodti dil da haani

ever since I have started becoming mature, I have been looking for the heart's commitment ( haani)

Mai anjaani ko yeh paani le na jaavi rod

I hope an innocent person like me(anjaani in this context) doesn't't get swept away by this flowing water ( of youth from the earlier line)

  23. Really like the meanings. Thanks to all of you. But why is Kajal Surma Laali. Doesnt Laali mean red? I thought Kajal would be black

    ReplyDelete
  24. laali is lipstick, shes saying i'm not going to put on lipstick or mascara or make up on her face

because the boys mum had harsh words for her she doesn't want to do these things any more

Ambersariya - guy from Amritsar Punjab

wheres missing paragraphs, i don't understand when she starts to compare with rivers flowing

Thank you, the original uploader, who translated this song. You have done yeoman service. I just heard of this song and video, 5 minutes ago. ( it takes time for these songs and videos to eventually reach the U.S. ..... lol. )

Thanks to all who have contributed meaningful comments. We should always be respectful in our words. Even constructive criticism can be delivered with kind and helpful words. Don't be too quick to be harsh with others, and above all, avoid bad words, at all costs.

Thank you Precious Girl for your kind interpretation. It was very helpful. I am somewhat familiar with the Hindi words, but totally at sea, in Punjabi. Kind regards to all.

  28. i love the translation of Precious Girl. Do i understand correct that "aur joban behta paani" hints to the Girl already having her periods?

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Anonymous

No. That's NOT the meaning of joban behta paani.

The meaning is that youth is like a flowing river (for everyone) which just goes on, never stopping where it is at one moment.
