Movie: Ek Thi Daayan
Music: Vishal Bhardwaj
Lyrics: Gulzar
Singer: Padmanabh Gaikwad
This track from Ek Thi Daayan is a very simple, beautiful Lullaby which incorporates some figures of speech as well. The Figures of Speech are marked in the translation too.
It's one of the few Hindi film songs that are actually sung by a child. However, Padmanabh, who has been to Saregamapa Little Champs, seems to sing Vishal's tune with the maturity of any other good singer.
Sapnaa re sapnaa
Hai koi apnaa
Ankhiyon mein aa bhar jaa..
Dream, ah dream,
Some dream is ours,
Come, fill in (my kid's) eyes..
Ankhiyon ki dibiyaa
Bhar de re nindiyaa
Jaadoo se jaadoo kar jaa..
Sapnaa re sapnaa..
O Sleep, fill the box of eyes,
Do a magical magic..
Dream, ah dream..
Bhoore-bhoore baadalon ke bhaaloo
Loriyaan sunaayein la-laa-laa-roo
Taaron ke kanchon se raat bhar khelenge
Sapnon mein chandaa aur tu..
Sapna re sapnaa..
Bears of brown clouds [With Bh- and b- sounds, an alliteration is created here.]
Sing lullabies, humming.. [la-la-la-roo represents sound of humming, that's onomatopoeia.]
In the dreams, you and the moon
will play with the marbles of stars all night..
Dream, ah dream..
Peele-peele kesari hain gaaon
Geeli-geeli chaandani ki chhaaon..
Bagulon ke jaise re
Doobe hue hain re..
Paani me sapnon ke paaon..
Sapna re sapna..
The villages are all yellow-saffron..
The shadow of moonlight seems wet.. [The poet seems to be talking about dew drops here.]
Like herons,
the dreams' feet are also in the water..
Dream, ah dream..
