Gun gun guna re, gun gun guna re, gun gun guna ye gaana re
Ho maayoosion ke chonge utaar ke phenk de na saare
Candle yeh shaam ka phoonk raat ka cake kaat pyaare
Seekha na tune yaar humne magar sikhaaya re
Dumdaar nuskha yaar humne jo aazmaya re
Aansuon ko chooran chaba ke humne dakaar maara re
Sonu Nigam after a long time recites a song that has made people mad about him once again. If not people, at least me. And the song does deserve the attention it seems to be getting right from day one. It has not just good music and superb singing, the lyrics of the song are lovely too.
Interestingly, Ajay-Atul, the composers of the song, have relied a lot on the melody of the song and Sonu's singing, not giving much heavy music here, while some of the restricted beats remind me of some A R Rahman songs sung by Sonu only, I guess close to Des ki Mitti (Bose - The Forgotten Hero).
As for Sonu, he ranges from the sweet and simple in the beginning to almost bursting the heart out when he comes to the 'ab hai saamne, ise chhoo loon zara' part of the song. In fact he has the particular lines sung at higher and lower pitches than the normal as well, with the antaras.
Amitabh Bhattacharya's lyrics look simple, though he goes Gulzar-ish with touching a moment, making it almost tangible. However other than that, lyrics are all simple but quite moving with the way Sonu sings it.

Meri adhoori kahani
lo daastaan ban gayi
o tune chhua aaj aise
main kya se kya ban gayi
My incomplete story,
has finally become a (complete) story..
You touched me today such that
I became all different..
sehme hue sapne mere haule haule angdaiyaan le rahe,
thehre hue lamhe mere nayi nayi gehraiyaan le rahe,
zindagi ne pehni hai muskaan
karne lagi hai itna karam kyun na jaane..
karwat lene lage hain armaan phir bhi
hai aankh nam kyun na jaane
o saiyyan
Well, Agnipath, or Agneepath as they spell it in the name of the movie, literally means the path of fire, as Agni is fire and path is a path, way.
The meaning of Agnipath is a difficult path, one that is very difficult to walk on, and in the poem written by Harivansh Rai Bachchan, it means a tough life, with all the problems working as fire on the path of life.
In Hindi, Chikna/ Chikni means smooth and chameli means the Jasmine flower. However, in the Mumbaiya dialect, which is spoken in (and, in fact, outside too) Mumbai and is not officially a dialect, chikni would mean a beautiful girl, and it has been used as an adjective here to Chameli, which is a common name for girls in India.
Chikni Chameli is the title of an item number in Karan Johar produced Agneepath, perfomed on by Katrina Kaif. Before this, Kareena Kapoor has played the role of a prostitute named Chameli in Sudhir Mishra's movie Chameli.
