Yuddh/ Yudhh/ Yudh Meaning [युद्ध]

Yuddh, or as spelled by Anurag Kashyap and Sony, Yudh, [युद्ध] simply means a war, a battle. It's the name of a serial being premiered on Sony Entertainment Television, and starring Amitabh Bachchan with others.

The name of the serial also makes sense because Amitabh's character in the film is called 'Yudhishthir', which also was the name of the eldest of the Pandavas who won India's biggest war - Yudh - according to mythology, Mahabharat.

Lyrics, Meaning and Singing: Sawaar Loon vs Sanwaar Loon [Critique]

Amit Trivedi, for the first time, has a discredit to his name. I do not know if this has happened before this, but for the first time I feel he has been negligent, and the cost is that one of his songs irritates me, and many more, though not all, not even most.

Reason? One of the best songs of Lootera, at least one of the best could-be songs of Lootera, Sanwaar Loon, is sung with lot of irritating mistakes by Monali Thakur, and it reaches the audience like that. Even the title of the song, which should have been Sanwaar Loon, is Sawaar Loon, the former meaning 'I would decorate/adorn' and the latter meaning 'get a rider', if at all meaning something.

This is not all. Bhanvre are Bhavre, Jhonke are Jhoke, Kyoon is Kyoo, and it goes on, e.g. 'Ye saari koyale bani hai aaj daakiya' almost as if the singer got a bad cold while singing.

It's not like we haven't heard such things in the past, but this seems to have happened for the first time with such a beautiful song, a song that could be heard on loop, and remembered for ages, and that is what makes us sad. As for the blame, I'd blame the music director here, as the singer is a newbie, at least to this kind of song, and doesn't boast of Hindi as her first language. But Amit Trivedi is a music director who seems to take every small thing into account, so how he missed the 'talaffuz' in the only version of the introductory song of an Anurag Kashyap movie, is questionable.

Oh, I have beaten the boy to death. But that's the result of killing a must-have-been-a-favorite song. Hope they take care of this in future. Amitabh Sir, I hope you too are listening.

Aiyya/ Aiyyaa Meaning

Aiyyaa, in Tamil, means sir, a respectable person, may even be used for father (actually appa in Tamil) at times.

But then that's not exactly how's it's used here in the name of the movie. Aiyya is a common form of expression to express surprise, shock, or something of that kind, and here it means that same one. I mean, you see something n suddenly blurt out, 'O My God!'. Here Aiyyaa is something like that only.

O Ri Duniya (Gulaal): Lyrics, Translation, Meanings

Movie: Gulaal
Music, Lyrics, Singer: Piyush Mishra

O Ri Duniya is a masterpiece by Piyush Mishra that he dedicates to the inspiration for the song, Sahir Ludhiyanvi's Ye Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaaye to Kya Hai from Pyaasa.

The song, no less than the original in my view, was a real tough one to translate, and while I have kept the translations mostly literal, I've also tried to give small explanations where I felt they were required. However, due to the complex nature of song, there might still be better translations for some lines despite my best efforts. Any such suggestions to make this work better will be welcomed.

O ri duniya
o ri duniyaa
aye o ri duniya
aye Surmayee aankhon ke Pyaalo ki duniya o duniya
Surmayee aankhon ke Pyaalo ki duniya o duniya
Satrangi rangon Gulaalon ki duniya o duniya
Satrangee rango Gulalon ki duniya o duniya

O world,
O dear world,
O world of cups of kohl-lined eyes (from which one can drink),
O world of rainbow-colored colors and Gulaals..

alsaayi Sejon ke Phoolon ki duniya o duniya re
angdaayi tode kabootar ki duniya o duniya re
aye karwat Le Soyi haqeeqat ki duniya o duniya
deewani hoti tabiyat ki duniya o duniya
khwahish mein Lipti Zaroorat ki duniya o duniya re
hey Insaan ke Sapno ki Neeyat ki duniya o duniya
o ri duniya o ri duniya..
o ri duniya o ri duniya..
Ye duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai
Ye duniya agar mil bhi jaaye to kya hai
Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai

it's a world of flowers decorating sleepy beds (for the wedding night),
it's a world of lazy-stretching pigeon..
it's a world of truth sleeping (calmly) by its side,
and a world of a temperament going mad..
it's a world of needs wrapped with wishes,
it's a world of humans' dreams and their intentions..
World, o world,
what's there (to celebrate) even if one gets this world..
what's there even if one gets this world..
what's there.. (there is nothing in this world that is worth)..

Gareebi Tod Deti hai jo rishte: Shayari meaning (Gangs of Wasseypur))

Aey Jawanon!
Gareebi tod deti hai jo riste khaas hote hain,
Aur paraaye apne hote hai jab paise paas hote hain..

O young men,
Poverty breaks even all those special relations,
and outsiders too become yours when you have money..

Har yaar wafadar nahi hota,
har patthar chamakdar nahi hota,
na jaane ban me kitne phool khile hain,
har phool khushbudaar nahin hota..

Not every friend is faithful,
not every stone is shiny,
there are so many flowers in the jungle,
not every flower is fragrant..

Womaniya Meaning

Womaniya is nothing but a modified form of the word woman. In Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern UP and some other areas, it's common to call someone with the name X as Xwa, Xba or Xya, depending on the name. The same thing can be seen being extended to a number of Hindi and English words at times, and Womaniya is a similar form of woman.

As for the song from the film Gangs of Wasseypur, here the ladies of a family and their neighbors etc are telling a newlywed woman how to deal with her husband.

O Womaniya: Lyrics, Translation (Gangs of Wasseypur)

Movie: Gangs of Wasseypur
Music: Sneha Khanwalkar
Lyrics: Varun Grover
Singers: Khusboo Raaj, Rekha Jha

Once again, tried to keep the meaning/translation of the song as much as possible for me. Thanks to @Rohwit for help. The lyrics are same for the regular version (Womaniya Live) and remixed version of the song.

taare jo babuna, tarti babuniya
babuna ke hatthe na chadhti babuniya

When the guy stares, the girl stares back,
the lady doesn't get caught by the guy..

O womaniya,
A aa womaniya..

Maange jo babuna prem nisaniya
bole jo thodi katiho kaniya..
badle rupahiya ke de na chawaniya
saiyyan ji jhapte to hona hiraniya
ho..

Humni ke chhodi ke nagariya ae baba: Lyrics, Translation

Movie: Gangs of Wasseypur
Music: Sneha Khanwalkar
Lyrics: Varun Grover
Singer: Deepak Kumar

Here an interesting fact is that the singer, who hails from Muzaffarpur in Bihar (credited as Deepak Kumar - Muzaffarpur), is just fourteen year old boy. So while in the song a boy is asking his father to meet his mother, the voice belongs to a small boy only.

Also, Thanks to @Rohwit (Blog) and Varun Grover, the lyricist for the album, for the actual lyrics which were submitted.

Humni ke chhori ke nagariya ae baba..
Ki arre baba chhori dihala ghar-parivaar kahun banwa maayi gayili ho..
Humni ke chhori ke nagariya ae baba..
Ki aaho baba soooni kayi ke gharwa-duvaar, kawan banwa maayi gayili ho,

Leaving my town, dear father,
Leaving the family behind, to which wilderness mother has gone..
Leaving my town, dear father,
Pushing the home into loneliness, to which wilderness mother has gone..

Bhokali Meaning

I love the Hunter song from Gangs of Wasseypur, but it's the lines 'Hai Bahut Bhokali, Na Kabhi Ho Khaali' that hits me the best. But then again, I was wondering how I can translate bhokali in usual words. So decided to explain it a little.

Bhokaali basically is more like a slang, and means something of huge magnitude. Something that can be in a way terrifying, not big, but huge, not necessarily in size.

The lines 'hai bahut bhokali, na kabhi ho khali' means 'it's huge, never gets emptied', other than that 'bahut badi' would do for huge, it's the larger-than-life magnitude of something that is being expressed with the word bhokali.

The word comes from Bhokaal or Bhokal, also the name of a famous comic book character.

Teri Keh ke Lunga Meaning

Teri Keh ke lunga is a slang which means I'll tell you and take away your dignity. The sentence suggests arrogance and ego, and though it has an underlying sexual overtone in the origin, the usage is not really about anything sexual.

The slang, in original, implies explicitness, but does not have the words exactly. Lena, which literally means to take, is many times used as a slang, for g***d lena, literally to take someone's a**, that is, to f*** someone in the a**.

However, the words teri keh ke lunga literally just mean "I'll tell you and take yours". It doesn't explicitly mention the object. But the complete meaning here would be something like "I'll tell you, and then I'll f*** you in the a**."

Of course, the meaning again here is not literal, and isn't really about anything sexual, but it's just about making someone lose their honor, dignity, and 'keh ke', which means 'after telling', expresses a challenge, that the person addressed won't be able to do anything about it.

Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana: Meaning/ Translation/ Explanation

In case of Luv Shuv tey Chicken Khurana, it's not enough to know the meaning of words individually to get the meaning of the whole phrase as it sounds quite nonsensical. But then, after some research and understanding of the basic story, you get to know what it means. So here is the total BollyMeaning of the Anurag Kashyap.

Luv Shuv is of course something very simple, you can translate it to Love etc., but the Chicken Khurana part gets a bit confusing as chicken is chicken, yeah, the cooked one (or to-be-cooked in case you thought I was being too specific), while Khurana is a Punjabi surname.

Confused? Listen to the story then. Here, the story is about a Punjabi family and their secret recipe of chicken, so my simple guess is that Chicken Khurana is the chicken dish that belongs to the family and therefore uses the family name. Hence, Chicken Khurana it is.

So Luv Shuv tey Chicken Khurana is roughly 'Love etc and a family chicken-dish.' Tey, in Punjabi, is 'and'.

Trishna Meaning

Trishna is a Hindi word of Sanskrit origin which means 'Thirst.'

The word may have the same meaning in some other languages with its Sanskrit origin.

Anurag Kashyap is the co-producer of a movie called Trishna where Frieda Pinto's character is called Trishna.

Joote Kahan Utare The: Poem Meaning

Chhoti-chhoti chhitrayi yaadein... bichhi hui hain lamho ki lawn par,
Nange paer unpe chalte-chalte itni door aa gaye hain,
ki ab bhool gaye hai joote kahaan utare the

Edi komal thi jab aaye the,
thodi si nazuk hai abhi bhi.. aur nazuk hi rahegi
In khatti-meethi yaadon ki shararat jab tak inhe gudgudati rahegi..
Sach.. Bhool gaye hain joote kahan utaare the
par lagta hai ab unki zaroorat nahi..

Small, scattered memories, are spread on the lawn of moments,
Walking bare-feet on them, (we) have come so far away,
that (we've) forgot where we had left our shoes..

The ankle was soft when we'd come
Still, it has some softness, and will remain soft,
As long as the mischief of these sweet-sour memories keeps tinkling them.
Really, We've forgot where we left our shoes,
But it seems they're not required anymore..

Motumaster Poem (Udaan) meaning

In Udaan, there's this wonderful song called Motumaster written by Anurag Kashyap. And there is a poem on motumaster's eating habits, qualities and possibilities, rendered by himself as far as I guess. Here is the poem and its English translation.

Har baal ki khaal ki yeh chhaal bhi kha jaaye
Iske haath padh jaaye toh mahine saal bhi kha jaaye
Kisi behaal ka bacha jo haal bhi haal kha jaaye
Bemaut marte mann ka yeh malaal kha jaaye
Lalu ka laal kha jaaye
Naxalbaari ki naal kha jaaye
Bachpan ka dhamaal kha jaaye
Budhape ki shaal kha jaye
Haya toh chodo behaya ki chaal bhi kha jaaye
aur agar parosa ja sake toh khayal bhi kha jaaye

He would even eat the covering of a hair's skin
If he gets, he'd eat even months and years
He'd eat even the remaining well-being of someone unwell
He'd even eat the sadness of an untimely dying heart
He can eat the laal of lalu (laal can mean red, the root word for lalu, it also means son)
He can eat even the barrels of naxalites (their guns)
He'd eat the fun of childhood
He'd eat the shawl of old-age
Leave aside shyness, he'd eat even the style of a shameless,
and if it's possible to put it on plate, he'll eat even a thought..

Nadi mein Talab hai/ ik udaan kab talak - Lyrics, meaning

Nadi mein talab hai, Kahin jo agar
Samandar kahan door hai

If a river has a wish (to flow) somewhere,
Sea is not far away

Damak ki garaz hai, sone mein agar
To jalna bhi manzoor hai

If gold has the wish to shine,
Then even getting burnt is acceptable.

Ik udaan kab talak yoon kaid rahegi
Roko na chhod do isse

Till when will a flight be captured (not that of a plane, but of a human being here)
Don't stop it, let it go.

Ik udaan hi sapno ko zindagi degi
Sapno se jod do isse

A flight only will give life to dreams,
Connect it to (your) dreams..

Purani daleelon, rasmon ko sabhi, abhi se kahen alvida
Badalte dinon ke tareekon se, Seenchein hum naya gulistan

Let's say goodbye to all old reasons and customs from now itself,
Let's water the new garden with the styles of changing times.

Ik udaan kab talak yoon kaid rahegi
Roko na chhod do isse
Ik udaan hi sapno ko zindagi degi
Sapno se jod do isse
Ik udaan kab talak yoon kaid rahegi
Roko na chod do isse
Ik udaan hi sapno ko zindagi degi
Sapno se jod do isse

Geet mein Dhalte Lafzon mein: Lyrics, meaning

Geet mein dhalte lafzon mein
Taal pe chalti nabzon mein
Naya kuchh naya to zaroor hai

In the words fitting into song,
In pulse running to the music,
There is surely something new..

Shaam se leke sehron mein
Dhoop jadi dopehron mein
Naya kuchh naya to zaroor hai

From evening till mornings,
In the afternoons full of sunshine,
There is surely something new..
