The word darkhaast or darkhast is nothing but a way of saying darkhwaast (Devanagari:दरख़्वास्त,Persian:درخواست) which is Urdu for 'request.' The word was quite commonly used until a few years ago in regular Hindustani literally as well as for written applications.
