Tere Naina (Kailasa) meaning

Jaage jaage soye soye tere naina
Sapno mein khoye khoye tere naina
Tanhaaiyo ki, parchaaiyo mein, Tum hi hona
Tere naina haye naina

A little awake, a little slept, your eyes
lost in dreams, your eyes
in the shadows of loneliness, isn't it you only,
your eyes, oh, eyes..

Sooni sooni, sooni sooni si yeh raina
Aaja piya, tere bina nahi chaina
Oonchaaiyo ki, gehraiyo mein, Tum hi hona
Tere naina haye naina

this lone, deserted night,
come o lover, without you there is no peace
in the depth of heights, isn't it you only,
your eyes, oh, eyes..

Paaya tujhe toh sab mil gaya haan
Ehsaas aisa ki sab khil gaya
Jaise himalaya khud pighal ke, saagar ban gaya
Haan in palo ki gaanaio mein, tum hi hona
Tere naina haye naina

when I found you, I found everything
Such a feeling that everything blossomed
As if the Himalayas themselves melted and became the sea
In the music of these moments, isn't it you only,
your eyes, oh eyes..

Madhosh raatein pal pal suhaani
Rut gaa rahi hai dil ke taraane
Saare nazaare chaand taare gungunane lage
In vaadiyon ki angdaaiyo mein, tum hi hona
Tere naina haye naina

Inebriated nights, every moment is beautiful
The weather is singing (my) heart's songs
All the sights, moon and stars are humming
In the stretches of these valleys , isn't it you only,
your eyes, oh eyes...

Jaage jaage soye soye Tere naina
Sapno mein khoye khoye Tere naina

Tanhaaiyo ki parchhaaiyo mein Tum hi hona
Tere naina haye naina
Sooni sooni, sooni sooni, si yeh raina
Aaja piya tere bina nahi chaina
Unchaaiyo ki gehraiyo mein
Tum hi hona
Tere naina haye naina

I'm Italian, studying Hindi and absolutely passionate about Indian pop music which in my mind is absolutely the best in the world and would deserve a much wider appreciation in the West. Tere Naina is probably one of the best examples of a pop song which manages to become a work of art. I also notice similarities between Italian opera in the 19th/early 20th century and Bollywood music.

I am starting to use your website as I can understand a lot of Hindi dialogue but when it comes to songs I don't know a lot of expressions which are typical of poetry rather than the colloquial language. So well done Harshit, and keep up the good job!

@Roberto

I am delighted to know my website is helping you understand things better.

As for the poetic expressions you are talking about, you can ask me here or even mail/FB me. Will try to help with the things I can.

Thanks,
Harshit.
