Allah ke Banday Meaning

Allah ke Banday, or Allah ke Bande, was a famous song, sung by Kailash Kher in the movie Waisa bhi Hota hai Part 2. Now there's a movie coming up with the title Allah ke Banday.

As known to all, Allah means God, while Banda has many meanings. Banda is nowadays used for any man, while earlier Banda was used mostly for a servant or a slave. In this context, banda means a devotee to God. Hence, the phrase Allah ke Banday, which means Devotees to God.

But at the same time, if you go by the popular meaning of the word where Banda can be any man, or rather, any human, Allah ke Banday can also mean God's humans, or humans made by God, which would simply mean Humans. Basically it depends on the context as to which meaning would you like to take here.

Bin Tere (Unplugged) Lyrics, Meaning

Shekhar Ravjiani's Unplugged version of Bin tere from IHLS (I Hate Love Stories) is one of my most favorite songs. Here are the lyrics and English Translation of the guitar based song.

teri nigaahon ke teri hi raahon ke
kareeb se gayi zindagi
tujhe kyun dekha na tujhe kyun jaana na
shikaayatein karun ya nahi
thami hain yeh saansein, bhari hain yeh aankhein
sahoon kaise ab yeh faasla
bin tere bin tere bin tere,
koi khalish hai hawaon mein bin tere

close to your eyes, close to your paths only,
did life pass through,
Why didn't I see you, Why didn't I know you,
Should I complain or not?
These breaths are paused, these eyes are brimming,
how to bear with this gap now,
without you, without you, without you,
there is an emptiness in the winds without you..

Talaffuz Meaning

When Javed Akhtar came on Indian Idol, there was one word that was heard a number of times. So much so that when a mimicry artist comes to mimic him on stage, he definitely says 'Aapka Talaffuz sahi nahin hai.'

But the fact is that he was completely right in his own sense because if your Talaffuz is not right while singing, it gets irritating.

OK. Let me come to the meaning. Talaffuz is an Urdu word, which means the pronunciation, articulation, the way of saying a word. In Hindi, you can call it uchcharan (उच्चारण). The word holds a real importance in music as in Urdu, slightly different way of saying a word may completely change it's meaning. For example Jaleel and Zaleel are almost opposites as Jaleel means having a splendor/style while Zaleel is humiliated, with no respect.

So next time someone says your 'talaffuz' isn't right, better take him seriously. :P

Nasheman Meaning | नशेमन

Tinkon ke nasheman tak, is mod se jaate hain...

Can you guess the meaning of Nasheman from this much-heard line from Aandhi? Well, Nasheman means a nest. In Hindi, Ghosla. That also explains why it's tinkon ke nasheman tak (till the nest made from straws)

The word is often used to signify 'home' in Urdu poetry. In fact it's one of the names a lot of people choose for their houses.

Atyachaar/ Atyachar meaning

Atyachaar is a Hindi word made up of two words ati and aachar. Ati means a lot, or too much, while aachar means behaviour. Hence, the very literal meaning of the word Atyachaar is extreme behaviour.

However, in popular language, atyachaar is used to describe oppression, or even closer, brutality.

Thus, the phrase Emotional Atyachar means brutality done with emotions as the means, that is, emotional blackmail.

Parvaaz meaning

Parvaaz, or Parwaj, is an Urdu word which means flight, Udaan in Hindi.

Like it always happens with words related to sky and flying, Parvaaz has been a word which is considered to have very positive vibes and hence there have been multiple things called Parvaaz, including one album of Jagjit Singh, one album of Pakistani band Junoon, a project for disabled children in UK, Hindi translation of Ruskin Bond's 'The Flight of Pigeons', and much more.

Aashayein Meaning

Aashayein is plural for Asha, which means hope. Hence, Aashayein means Hopes.

Gulzar: Full Name/ Real Name

This is kind of outside the scope of this blog but since it is about the person's name who is master of words and meanings, this could probably not be left.

Gulzar, one of the best ever poets of India (at least to me), was born Sampooran Singh Kalra. That is, Gulzar was a Sikh, with a beard and a Pagdi. Yes, I've even seen the old picture of a young Gulzar in beard and turban.

Gulzar was his pen name he had started writing with since very beginning of his career, or say even before that.

The meaning of 'Gulzar' is blossoming/blossomed.

Khumaar, Khumari meaning

Khumaar and Khumari (or Khumaari) sound like two words with related, but different meanings. But strangely, both the word mean the same thing, the state of being intoxicated, or what one would call in Hindi, Nashe ki haalat.

Interestingly, this is something that is used in both masculine and feminine genders and one can say khumaar hai, or khumari hai, and both are equally correct. Of course, the first one has Khumar in masculine and the later has khumari which is feminine. The point to be noted is that the words have nothing to do with the gender of the person they are used for.

Ahmiyat/ Ehmiyat meaning

Ahmiyat or Ehmiyat is an eham word. Oh, I didn't tell you again. Aham or eham in Urdu means important, and from the same root comes Ahmiyat or Ehmiyat which means Importance.

At the same time, Aham is a Sanskrit word too that means 'I'. Kisna's song Aham Brahmasmi uses that meaning, where Aham Brahmasmi means I'm the root, or I'm the God (who gives birth to all).

Yamla Pagla Deewana Meaning

Yamla Pagla Deewana, which was again a part of an old Hindi song, one featuring Dharmendra, is now the title of a Hindi movie. Incidentally, the movie has Dharmendra along with his sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.

The meaning of Yamla Pagla Deewana is simply mad mad mad, or crazy crazy crazy, as Yamla, Pagla and Deewana all mean mad or crazy. If you're interested in mathematics, you can make more names like Mad crazy mad, or crazy mad crazy, and count how many such names are possible. Just Kidding!

Antardwand Meaning

Antardwand is a Hindi word, or you can even say a Sanskrit word as it has Sanskrit root and has been taken like that only from there. The word is made up of Antah (अन्तः) and Dwand(द्वंद्व) or rather dwandwa as you might have noticed. Now antah means inner, and dwandwa or dwand means a fight that happens between two people. So antardwand or antardwandwa literally means an inner fight. The word actually implies a fight between thoughts inside one person.

That way, you can say antardwand is 'dilemma,' one where you're unable to decide as a result of contradicting thoughts.

Jhootha hi Sahi meaning

Jhootha hi Sahi is part of a famous Hindi song of 1970, from the movie Johny Mera Naam. The song went like 'pal bhar ke liye koi hame pyaar kar le, jhootha hi sahi' (someone love me for a moment, even if false).

As is clear from the line too, Jhootha hi Sahi means 'even if for false', or 'even if it's not true'. Jhootha hi Sahi is a phrase that has been part of many other songs too, though hardly anyone reaching this level in Bollywood.

Arima Arima meaning

Enthiran, or Robot, has some strange words in the songs. Arima Arima is one of them. The word is title of a song and interestingly it is there in all the three languages Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

That's why I thought the word could be from Tamil and tried to find out the meaning. But the word, as far as I could find out, doesn't exist even in Tamil. I know it does not exist in Hindi and don't think it might in Telugu.

So, as far as I know, Arima hardly has a meaning. Still, if you go a bit wild in searching and take into account more languages, you might find that Arima means Hill in Trinidad and Tobago where Arima is also the name of a town.

Most probably the word has been kept with the same meaning in mind as the sentence just before Arima Arima says 'ye hai yaantrik manav sabse ooncha' (this is the tallest machinic human, or robot).

So in my opinion, Arima means a hill. Any further details/suggestions are welcome.

Update: Arima is an old Tamil Word which means Lion. (Courtesy Hari)

My magic works, I want something like that,
(I wish) I'm called the princess of dreams..

Yeh bhi vaada na tumhein ab chhodenge
Jeena chaahe phir tere liye aankhein na pherenge
Saansein meri tu le le bhale, ab na tumhein jaane denge

We'll add up small dreams,
We also promise we'll not leave you now
We want to live for you again, we'll not turn the eyes (the other way)
Even if u take my breath (as in, ask for my life), I'll not let you go now.

PS: This whole song is in plural but many times even one person can talk in the same tense, so it can be used as singular as well.

Joote Kahan Utare The: Poem Meaning

Chhoti-chhoti chhitrayi yaadein... bichhi hui hain lamho ki lawn par,
Nange paer unpe chalte-chalte itni door aa gaye hain,
ki ab bhool gaye hai joote kahaan utare the

Edi komal thi jab aaye the,
thodi si nazuk hai abhi bhi.. aur nazuk hi rahegi
In khatti-meethi yaadon ki shararat jab tak inhe gudgudati rahegi..
Sach.. Bhool gaye hain joote kahan utaare the
par lagta hai ab unki zaroorat nahi..

Small, scattered memories, are spread on the lawn of moments,
Walking bare-feet on them, (we) have come so far away,
that (we've) forgot where we had left our shoes..

The ankle was soft when we'd come
Still, it has some softness, and will remain soft,
As long as the mischief of these sweet-sour memories keeps tinkling them.
Really, We've forgot where we left our shoes,
But it seems they're not required anymore..

Zindagi se darte ho: Lyrics Meaning

A pretty tough post, took some real hard work. And here is the result. Can't guarantee it to be hundred percent right, but I've tried my best and I guess it should be more or less right.

Tum abhi se darte ho

You're afraid of man,
You're afraid of man, even you're man,
even you're man, even We are men,
You are afraid now itself...

Lehrein: Lyrics, Meaning (Aisha)

khoyi khoyi si hoon main
kyun ye dil ka haal hai
dhundhle saare khaab hain
uljha har khayaal hai
saari kaliyaan murjha gayin
rang unke yaadon mein reh gaye
saare gharonde ret ke,
lehrein aayin lehron mein beh gaye.

I'm feeling lost
Why is the condition of my heart like that
All my dreams are foggy
every thought is tangled
all the buds died,
their colors are left in the memories
all the houses of sand -
waves came, they went flowing with the waves..

Tees Maar Khan Meaning

Tees maar khan is a phrase I'm familiar with from my very childhood. Literally Tees Maar Khan means someone who has killed thirty men. In many stories, mostly those of Sheikh Chilli, Tees Maar Khan is a man who pretends to be a tiger of a man claiming he has killed thirty men, though it doesn't seem so. Hence, when you talk of the actual meaning of the phrase, it's used for someone who says he has done something really big, something worth being proud of, though it may not actually be so.

The earliest and probably the only memory of the phrase for me is of the times I used to be proud of something and my father used to say, 'Tum khud ko bahut bade tees maar khan samajhte ho?' (You think you are some big tees maar khan?) which would mean I wasn't someone great who had done some great thing and there was nothing I should be actually proud of.

So even though I have never looked for the word in the dictionary, I guess I have conveyed you what Tees Maar Khan means.

Anjaana Anjaani Meaning

Anjaana Anjaani, or Anjana Anjani is a Bollywood film by Siddharth Anand, a director previously with Yashraj Films. He has made Salaam Namaste, Tara RumPum and Bachna ae Haseeno while with YRF.

Anyway, coming to Anjaana Anjaani, the words mean unknown, for a male and a female respectively, so while Anjaana anjaani literally means 'Unknown Unknown,' you can actually translate it to 'Boy Unknown, Girl Unknown' in the context of the movie.

Also, Anjaana Anjaani was a song in Mani Ratnam's Yuva (Hindi), which was sung by Lucky Ali, who also happens to be a favorite of Siddharth.

Motumaster Poem (Udaan) meaning

In Udaan, there's this wonderful song called Motumaster written by Anurag Kashyap. And there is a poem on motumaster's eating habits, qualities and possibilities, rendered by himself as far as I guess. Here is the poem and its English translation.

Har baal ki khaal ki yeh chhaal bhi kha jaaye
Iske haath padh jaaye toh mahine saal bhi kha jaaye
Kisi behaal ka bacha jo haal bhi haal kha jaaye
Bemaut marte mann ka yeh malaal kha jaaye
Lalu ka laal kha jaaye
Naxalbaari ki naal kha jaaye
Bachpan ka dhamaal kha jaaye
Budhape ki shaal kha jaye
Haya toh chodo behaya ki chaal bhi kha jaaye
aur agar parosa ja sake toh khayal bhi kha jaaye

He would even eat the covering of a hair's skin
If he gets, he'd eat even months and years
He'd eat even the remaining well-being of someone unwell
He'd even eat the sadness of an untimely dying heart
He can eat the laal of lalu (laal can mean red, the root word for lalu, it also means son)
He can eat even the barrels of naxalites (their guns)
He'd eat the fun of childhood
He'd eat the shawl of old-age
Leave aside shyness, he'd eat even the style of a shameless,
and if it's possible to put it on plate, he'll eat even a thought..
