Waqt ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam | Amitabh Bachchan / 102 Not Out

Movie: 102 Not Out
Music: SD Burman, Recreation: Rohan-Vinayak
Lyrics: Kaifi Azmi
Singer: Amitabh Bachchan (Originally sung by Geeta Dutt)
Label: Saregama Music

waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam
tum rahe na tum, hum rahe na hum

What a beautiful injustice time has done (to us),
that neither you remained like yourself, nor did I.

waqt ne kiya...

beqaraar dil is tarah miley
jis tarah kabhi hum judaa na thhe
tum bhi kho gaye
hum bhi kho gaye
ek raah par chal ke do kadam

the two restless hearts met in such a way,
as if we were never apart.
you were lost,
I was lost too,
after walking just a couple of steps on one path.

waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam
tum rahe na tum, hum rahe na hum

Badumba Meaning, Lyrics Translation | 102 Not Out / Amitabh Bachchan

Movie: 102 Not Out
Music: Amitabh Bachchan
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya
Singer: Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor
Label: Saregama Music

This is one unique song, the most Amitabh-Amitabh song, I'd say. As it's not only a composition of Amitabh Bachchan and sung by him, but also has lyrics written by the lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya. That's two much Amitabh for a song. :D

Badumbaa Meaning: baDumba (or baDumbaa or baDumbaaa) is nothing but simply a cry of joy. It's probably a word dear to Amitabh Bachchan. Saying so because he has earlier even tweeted the word when he was happy about India winning a cricket match. Here, the word is a cry of joy and energy, which is the theme of the song.

Kuch Nahi Lyrics Translation | Tubelight

Movie: Tubelight
Music: Pritam
Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya (Reprise addition from Amir Khusrow)
Singer: Javed Ali | Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan (Reprise) | Papon (Encore)
Label: Sony Music India

So here comes what is probably the best song of Tubelight. Kuch Nahi seems to begin where Bajrangi's Tu Jo Mila ended, and similar to that, has three versions sung by Javed Ali, Papon, and Shafqat (Tu Jo Mila had KK, he sings a version of 'Main Agar' here). Do listen to this one. Or three. :)

Atrangi Yaari Lyrics Translation | Wazir

Movie: Wazir
Music: Rochak Kohli
Lyrics: Deepak Ramola, Gurpreet Saini
Singers: Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Alhtar
Music Label: T-Series

Wazeer/ Wazir Meaning | वज़ीर

Wazir (often spelled as Wazeer, Devanagari:वज़ीर, Persian/Urdu:وزیر) is a very commonly used Urdu word which means a Minister, or the chief/main minister of the king (the exact word for Prime Minister is Wazeer-e-Aazam, Aazam meaning great).

In India, the word is most used in the context of chess where Wazir is the same piece that is known as Queen outside the Indian subcontinent.

Wazir is a Hindi movie starring Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar, where Bachchan is a chess grandmaster.

The English word Vizier is nothing but the anglicised form of the word Wazir.

Piddly si Baatein Lyrics Translation | Shamitabh

Movie: Shamitabh
Music: Ilaiyaraja
Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire
Singer: Amitabh Bachchan
Label: Eros Music

Piddly is an English word which means meager, trivial, little, not worth caring about.

Shamitabh Meaning

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted a few days ago that Shamitabh has no particular meaning. However, those who are well acquainted with Hindi or even other Indian languages, can make some guesses here.

Shamitabh doesn't have an existence as a word, but if you say 'Amitabh-Shamitabh', then it would mean something like 'Amitabh etc.' This is the way many Indian words are spoken in casual conversation, e.g. if you say 'bhoot-voot kuch nahi hota', it would translate to, 'there is nothing like ghost or something' or 'there is nothing like ghosts etc.' or simply 'there is nothing like ghosts'. So the appended part is something negligible, not so important, or completely non-existent, depending on situation.

This way, taking a cue from the title, Shamitabh could be an 'et cetera' with respect to Amitabh Bachchan, and it could well be story of someone relatively unknown, unheard, who is trying to become like Amitabh Bachchan.

Yuddh/ Yudhh/ Yudh Meaning [युद्ध]

Yuddh, or as spelled by Anurag Kashyap and Sony, Yudh, [युद्ध] simply means a war, a battle. It's the name of a serial being premiered on Sony Entertainment Television, and starring Amitabh Bachchan with others.

The name of the serial also makes sense because Amitabh's character in the film is called 'Yudhishthir', which also was the name of the eldest of the Pandavas who won India's biggest war - Yudh - according to mythology, Mahabharat.

Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein Khayal Aata Hai | Poem Translation

Movie: Kabhie Kabhie (1975)
Poetry: Sahir Ludhiyanvi

कभी कभी मेरे दिल में ख्याल आता है
कि ज़िंदगी तेरी जुल्फों की नर्म छांव में गुजरने पाती
तो शादाब हो भी सकती थी।

Mera Desh: Lyrics Translation [Prasoon Joshi, Amitabh Bachchan, SEL]

Here is the translation of Prasoon Joshi's poem, Mera Desh ro raha hai. Here, he has questioned our attitude of moving on, and asked if we move on because we really have so much strength, or do we just avoid our problems and hence say we have moved on. The poem is deep, thought-provoking, and at the same time positive and inspiring too. Hope you like it.

Dekho zaraa theher ke
mera desh ro rahaa hai
Ghayal hai man kaa konaa
mera desh ro raha hai
mera desh.. mera desh..

Just pause and see,
My country is crying,
A corner of heart is wounded,
My country is crying,
My country, my country..

Mera Desh Ro Raha Hai Lyrics [Amitabh, Prasoon, SEL]

This poem was written by Prasoon Joshi for the Uttarakhand support program run on TV by Star group. Here he talks about our 'moving on' attitude, and asks whether we're actually giving enough strength to the downtrodden or just saying move on to avoid them.

The poem was recited by Amitabh Bachchan and simultaneously sung in parts by Shankar Mahadevan with Ehsaan and Loy.

For the translation of the entire poem, you can check THIS POST.

Dekho zaraa theher ke
mera desh ro rahaa hai
Ghayal hai man kaa konaa
mera desh ro raha hai
mera desh.. mera desh..

Beh Gaye: Poem for Uttarakhand Relief [Amitabh Bachchan, Prasoon Joshi]

This is the poem written by Prasoon Joshi appealing to help the flood victims of Uttarankhand and do our best for them. Recited by Amitabh Bachchan, the poem describes the deep sadness of the situation, at the same time reminding us of our common force and tells us that we can help those in distress and rebuild the state.

Do listen to it, and help as much as you can, the way you can. Thanks.

The poem in Devnagari and Roman is here, along with English Translation.

Satyaagraha/ Satyagraha Meaning [सत्याग्रह]

Satyaagraha or Satyagraha was a term coined by Mahatma Gandhi for his unique way of fighting against injustice without being violent. As such the meaning of the word doesn't mention non-violence, still the term is used for non-violent methods of protesting.

Literally, Satyagraha is made of Satya and Aagraha, the former meaning Truth and the latter meaning Request. So the meaning is literally 'Request for Truth'. The aagraha here is also used as insistence, though usually it's not used to that effect, and hence Satyagraha is called Insistence for Truth.

Either way, the word is not just limited to request or insistence for Truth alone, but is used as a way of protesting against any injustice in an active but non-violent way.

Nishabd Meaning

Nishabd is a Hindi word which means wordless, i.e. silent, quiet.

Nishabd was the title of a 2007 movie starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jiah Khan.

Even though Nishabd reverse-transliterates to निशब्द, the word is actually written in Hindi as नि:शब्द. However, since there is no way to write a visarga in English (though it looks exactly like a colon), the title of the movie was Nishabd.

Aradhya/ Aaraadhya/ Aaradhya meaning

Aaradhya (आराध्या) is Hindi/Sanskrit, meaning someone who is adorable, or worth devotion for.

Aaradhana is Hindi/Sanskrit for devotion towards someone, and aaradhya comes from that.

Aaradhya is the name of Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's daughter, and grand daughter of Amitabh Bachchan.
